130 m² That Bring Generations Together – A Multifunctional Space in Gorski Kotar
About the Project: One Space, Many Purposes
Across just 130 m², we designed a space that brings relaxation, entertainment, and socialising together — a place where everyone can find something for themselves. By combining a hospitality area, an entertainment zone, and children’s facilities, a modern, multifunctional environment emerged that caters to all generations.
The project includes a covered café terrace, a contemporary interior, and a specially designed entertainment area — all carefully integrated with the building’s exterior and architecture.
What the project includes:
- Covered café terrace with large glass walls
- Modern interior featuring stone walls and a wooden ceiling
- Entertainment zone: billiards, table football, digital games
- Outdoor children’s playground connected to the terrace
Inspiration: Mountain Architecture as a Starting Point
Our inspiration came from the traditional architecture of the Gorski Kotar region. Through the use of stone and wood, we created an authentic, warm atmosphere that feels naturally at home in its mountain surroundings — without artificial details, but with a clear contemporary signature.
The existing stone walls give the space its character, while a modern wooden ceiling and subtle lighting further emphasise them, creating a sense of warmth and elegance that guests feel the moment they step inside.
“Tradition and modernity don’t exclude each other — together they build a spatial identity that endures.”
Covered Terrace: Year-Round Enjoyment
The terrace was conceived as a space for year-round pleasure. Large glass walls dissolve the boundary between indoors and outdoors, while natural materials and warm tones create a comfortable, relaxing atmosphere.
Whether you come for a morning coffee or an evening gathering, the space effortlessly adapts to every moment of the day.
Interior: A Balance Between Modern and Natural
The interior breathes balance between contemporary design and natural elements. Carefully selected furniture and a flexible seating arrangement ensure comfort and privacy for every guest — whether they come alone, as a couple, or in a larger group.
The original stone walls are preserved as the key visual element. The wooden ceiling accentuates the height of the space, while discreet ambient lighting guides the eye without harshness.
Entertainment Zone: Energy and Connection
The modern entertainment zone gives the space a special dynamic energy. Equipped with a billiard table, table football, and digital games, it is ideal for informal gatherings, celebrations, and relaxed socialising.
Decorative elements such as a green living wall and wooden details bring freshness and visual interest without disrupting the harmony of the whole.
Children’s Playground: Freedom for Kids, Peace of Mind for Parents
For the youngest visitors, there is a children’s playground located outdoors and directly connected to the café terrace. While children play freely, parents can relax knowing their little ones are safe and always within sight.
Why This Concept Matters for Local Development
Through this project, NK Design highlights the importance of combining aesthetics, functionality, and user experience to maximise every available square metre. Each square metre must “work” — both visually and functionally.
This concept is ideal for developing local hospitality and tourism offerings. The goal is to create a place that is not simply a café, but a community gathering hub — for locals, tourists, and all visitors to Gorski Kotar.
What this project proves:
- Limited floor space does not mean limited possibilities
- Tradition and contemporary design can coexist without compromise
- Multifunctionality is the key to long-term profitability in hospitality
- A thoughtfully designed space becomes part of the local tourism offering
