Apartment Renovation in Pula, 56 m²
Apartment Renovation in Central Pula, 56 m² – A New View of the Space
When does an apartment have no potential? Or have we simply not found it yet?
The owners of this apartment in Pula’s old town were convinced that almost nothing could be changed about the existing layout. A long hallway, a series of small rooms and an awkwardly positioned chimney felt like constraints that were hard to work around.
But at NKdesign, spaces like this become the most interesting challenges.
We found the key to the change where perhaps nobody would have looked for it — in the hallway.
By removing part of the partition wall next to the chimney, we opened the way to an entirely new organisation of the apartment. The hallway, until then merely a passage to the other rooms, became the starting point of a transformation that changed how the whole interior feels.
Opening the space connected the kitchen with the living area, created a more open whole and allowed for a more functional bathroom layout. Even the area in front of the balcony found a new role — it became a practical utility room and storage space.
Sometimes you don’t need more square metres. You just need the right solution.
Materials: dark herringbone, marble and warm timber
Dark vinyl in a herringbone pattern gives the interior depth and character, while warm timber tones, calm beige fronts and an expressive marble surface come together into an elegant, contemporary whole.
Clean furniture lines and considered lighting create an interior that reads as sophisticated without being cold. Every material has its role, and the contrasts give the space dynamism without any superfluous decorative elements.
An authentic detail? The owner’s passion, turned into design.
This apartment carries one entirely distinct signature — the model car collection of a passionate collector.
Rather than staying hidden in boxes, the cars were given their own carefully designed display niche. A timber backdrop and integrated ambient lighting turn the collection into a striking detail that gives the space its personality.
Because an interior doesn’t have to look like a catalogue page to be beautiful. The best design happens when aesthetics are connected to the story of the person who actually lives there.
Renovating a small apartment — when a space gains a new perspective
The renovation of this 56 m² apartment in central Pula shows how much a considered change to the floor plan can affect the quality of living. From the seemingly limiting hallway to the open living area and the details reflecting the owner’s character — every move had its purpose.
We didn’t just renovate an apartment. We found the space that had been hiding inside it all along.
