Contemporary Mediterranean Landscape in Dialogue with Architecture
Contemporary Mediterranean Landscape in Dialogue with Architecture
We designed the surroundings of an apartment building in Rovinj, inspired by the minimalist and modern architectural style of the structure, with the aim of creating a calm and refined outdoor space that naturally complements the building’s volume.
The foundation of the design concept is the selection of a travertine texture, consistently applied across three materials — stone, ceramics, and plaster — ensuring material and visual cohesion throughout the space. This subtle connection between materials highlights clean lines, timeless elegance, and the contemporary character of the exterior.
The outdoor space is organized through cascading green islands that rhythmically follow the architecture and shape clear spatial sequences. These green volumes soften the strict geometry of the building, introduce depth and dynamism, and create natural visual barriers that provide privacy and a sense of intimacy.
Within the green islands, lemon trees are carefully positioned as a strong symbol of Mediterranean identity, along with two large olive trees that bring a sense of permanence, tranquility, and connection to the Istrian landscape. The planting scheme is not merely decorative, but an equal architectural element that structures the space and guides users through the exterior.
The central pool area is designed in a simple and refined manner, surrounded by minimalist furniture in neutral tones, functioning as the main focal point for relaxation and social life. Subtle ambient lighting, integrated into walls, ground surfaces, and green zones, further emphasizes material textures and the cascading spatial composition during evening hours.
The entire landscape is conceived as an extension of the architecture — balanced, functional, and aesthetically coherent — designed for a contemporary lifestyle within a luxurious Mediterranean setting.
